Silvia Willumsen, RN, BSN, is the new Bone Marrow Transplant Coordinator for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, assuming oversight of the institute’s evolving bone marrow transplant program as part of its membership in the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Alliance.
Willumsen will work to emulate MSK’s model for delivering the most advanced, comprehensive bone marrow transplant services at HHC. The goal is for HHC cancer patients to have bone marrow transplants at MSK’s cancer center in New York, but to have pre-procedure preparation and post-procedure rehabilitation at locations closer to home.
Willumsen has an extensive background in bone marrow and stem cell transplant, having spent the past 11 years as Stem Cell Transplant Coordinator for the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Stem Cell Transplant at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She will begin her tenure with a four-week immersion at MSK’s Blood and Marrow Transplantation Service in New York to become proficient in MSK’s Shared Care model for bone marrow transplant delivery.
